World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
The upgrade of an item can be used to improve the stats of a particular item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.
Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a certain amount.
Item Level
When an item gets upgraded, its stats increase in value. This value is the total of all of its upgraded advantages (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades to items can be costly, depending on the upgrader you choose and the kind of upgrade you decide to make. This is because of how many perks must be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.
It is also used to enforce gating requirements when queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It also serves to limit how much PvP gear players are able to wear as PvP is restricted at lower levels. The average item level can be found in the character sheet.
When deciding whether to purchase or sell gear, players can compare the levels of the item. It's a good gauge of an item's worth and the amount of damage it's able to deal. Comparing items from the inventory of a seller can be done using the item level.
On PC, you can view the item level using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the item's full description, including the ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are several theories about how the item level calculation is done. One theory is that the level is a numerical value derived from a formula that calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It takes into account the fact that different perks have different worth and gems in sockets add to the item's overall value. This could result in a calculated item's ilvl that is typically very close to Blizzards actual item level.
This isn't the only factor that affects the value of an item. The degree of the area in which the item dropped can also change its stats. For instance it can increase the item's haste, or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have higher ilvl.
Item Stats
Stats on an item are a significant element in what determines the value of an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the best." The stat modifications of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by a player's level.
Upgrades to the item add by increasing certain stats on the item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. A white or grey item, for example, will only be upgraded one time, while an item with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times with more expensive costs.
Another method to alter the stats on an item is to use affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and they come in all sizes and shapes. The affixes could provide the item extra damage, or add a unique capability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down cooldowns), or make the item unique by adding an additional name to the item.
All affixes can be re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade menu and pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold and items, which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other rerolling options.
Players can upgrade an item by specific stats or reroll the affixes. The possible ranges of stats for an item are based on the item level, but all items are guaranteed to have at least one stat within that range, unless it's a unique item or a God roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that can be modified by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or choosing which stats to enhance. But as with base equipment, this would have to be carried out on a per-item level, and the interface for comparing items wouldn't show all possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player boosts the likelihood of locating items and the properties that are created by loot and the intensity of these properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It merely gives players a possibility to obtain better equipment in earlier waves and is thus more valuable in the initial game run than in later ones, because most players value more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability which increases with each level of the item and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
the original source , shields and weapons can be created or spawned using the Luck property, with the default value of 40. These items can then be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant a further +40 Luck, or to increase the existing Luck of an item up to 140.
Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow can also be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any skill that is able to deal damage by five percent. These items can be found in the shop or created using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Item upgrades are costly and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to increase their success rate or prevent them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails.
When you upgrade an item the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limits to how much the success rates can be improved and the probability of an upgrade failing cannot exceed 100%.
The performance of an upgrades is also influenced by the luck of the item. Every item has an overall success rate of 25 percent, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent.
The upgrade overlays of the item are rendered above items in the inventory. This may block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
